A very special event to raise funds for children at the Tamariki Education Centre in the slums of Nairobi is taking place on Sunday 24 November at 6 pm in the Te Rauparaha Arena, Porirua.
The ‘Cello for Africa’ concert has been in the making for well over a year and is a collaboration between Sinfonia for Hope https://www.sinfoniaforhope.com/cello-for-africa and Heleen du Plessis http://heleenduplessis.com/, a South African cellist now living in Dunedin. Bringing together musicians from Africa and New Zealand, the concert features an outstanding line up of professional musicians and local youth groups who will perform an extravaganza of music from both countries — from Vivaldi to Congo Drumming and Kapa Haka. Music Futures works with some of the young musicians, hence the connection.
The Tamariki Education Centre, a primary school in the slums of Nairobi, supports 120 children (and growing annually) and their families, with access to an education and basic needs. https://www.tamarikieducationcentre.com/
